Since 1921, First District Association has been a grassroots dairy cooperative located in Litchfield Minnesota. Their new state of the art cheese plant, whey protein dryer and lactose dryer, allows them to process 7.5 million pounds of milk from our family farms per day. Their manufacturing facilities are SQF certified as well as USDA and FDA approved. In addition, all three facilities comply with the requirements of the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) for food safety systems allowing them to ensure consistency, traceability and responsiveness at every step of their manufacturing processes yielding high quality products and ingredients. Their cheese, whey products and lactose are Kosher, Halal and EU approved. In addition, they have a state of the art laboratory on premises with the equipment needed to test for pathogens as well as the technical expertise that allows them to meet their customers’ specifications. In 2019 they adopted the U.S. Dairy Stewardship Commitment. First District Association strongly believes that acting in an environmentally, socially and financially responsible manner is just good business. They are also proud to say that 100 percent of our dairy farmers actively participate in the National Dairy Farm Animal Care Program. Their farmers are committed every day to producing quality milk to be able to offer the highest standards of cheese, whey and lactose to their customers.
