U.S. Dairy Delivers on Adventurous Eating and Healthful, Clean Label Trends

Visit IFT booth #5613 to taste and learn why dairy ingredients offer proven solutions for balancing taste by providing high-quality protein in today’s convenience-driven applications

ARLINGTON, Va., May 14, 2019 - Unmatched nutrition, broad functionality, and winning taste are just three of the many reasons to take another look at U.S. Dairy to meet today's innovation challenges. Want more? The U.S. dairy community has a strong commitment to sustainability that aligns with the expectations of today's consumer.

The U.S. Dairy Export Council (USDEC) will showcase how U.S. dairy ingredients can deliver benefits that both food companies and consumers are seeking via innovative prototypes at the 2019 Institute of Food Technologists (IFT) Annual Meeting & Food Expo, June 3-5, in New Orleans.   As consumers' interest in health and wellness foods continues to climb, delivering nourishing products that are simultaneously delicious, enjoyable and convenient becomes both a challenge and an opportunity for food and beverage formulators around the world.

Beyond nutrition, consumers are looking for their foods and beverages to check other boxes such as being made from sustainably produced sources and providing memorable experiences and global flavors. A new report from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and Global Dairy Platform found that North America is leading the world when it comes to efforts to reduce dairy greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. North America was the only region of the seven studied where both emissions intensity and absolute emissions fell for the timeframe of the report (2005-2015) while overall milk production rose.

"As consumers seek greater understanding of how their food is made, U.S. dairy foods can help manufacturers deliver with simple and known ingredients," commented Vikki Nicholson-West, senior vice president, Global Ingredients Marketing at USDEC. "We're here to show formulators that with U.S. dairy ingredients, they have the tools to provide consumers with high-quality nutrition without sacrificing taste or their clean label."

To showcase the neutral flavor profile, nutrition and functionality that U.S. dairy ingredients, such as milk protein, whey proteins and permeate, can uniquely provide, USDEC developed on-the-go snack prototypes-Calamansi Protein Gel Snacks and Protein-Powered Curry Hummus

"Developed through the National Dairy Foods Research Centers at the University of Minnesota and the Wisconsin Center for Dairy Research, these applications bring to life convenient and flavorful ways consumers from around the world can increase their protein intake throughout the day, no matter their life stage," said Nicholson-West.

U.S. dairy innovation, nutrition and marketing experts will be available throughout the show to answer questions and share more about how U.S. Dairy is positioned to help food and beverage manufacturers worldwide capitalize on the growing demand for more nutritious and tasteful products made from socially, environmentally and economically responsible sources Additional events at IFT that will highlight the benefits and potential applications of dairy products and ingredients include:
