Renard’s Cheese was established in 1961 in Door County, Wisconsin. They are a family owned and operated business that is now on its third generation of cheesemakers. Chris Renard and his wife, Ann, own two brick-and-mortor Renard’s Cheese stores as well as Renard’s Rosewood Dairy, where all of the cheese is produced.
The Renard family is committed to continuing the longstanding tradition of perfectly blended, handcrafted, quality gourmet cheese. The cheese selections include Cheddar, Colby, Farmers, Muenster, Brick, Marble, Monterey Jack., Mozzarella String, Smoked String, and more than 50 flavor-infused specialty cheeses. They currently produce over 3 million pounds of cheese per year.
While many things have changed over the years, Renard's recipe remains the same. This precise art has awarded Renard's not only a reputation of great standards but also a product that they are proud to put their name on.
Meet the Cheesemaker
In 2014, Chris Renard earned his Master Cheesemaker Certification in Cheddar and Mozzarella - a nationally accredited prestigious title which allows Renard’s Cheese to market their product to a larger audience. The Master Cheesmaker program is a rigorous course of study that requires a minimum of 10 years of licensed Cheese making experience before one can even be considered for admittance. Once accepted, the program includes coursework taught by some of the most accomplished educators in the cheese community, an apprenticeship, and a final 40 hour written examination.
Chris Renard has continued in his grandfather’s and father’s footsteps in producing a variety of handcrafted award-winning cheeses. Although Renard’s Cheese vows to stay true to their roots, their true inspiration is their customers who drive the cheesemakers to create new blends of specialty cheeses.

Renard’s Famous Cheese Curds
Cheese curds are a Wisconsin favorite, and Renard’s does them right! Fresh curds are also known as “squeaky cheese” because they make a squeaky noise when they are bitten into. Eat them straight from the bag as a snack, add to a burger, or on top of your next pizza.

Hoop Cheddar
Our traditional Hoop Cheddar Cheese is made from our own special recipe! Dipped in red wax, these wedges are visually appealing so they work great for gatherings, special occasions or charcuterie displays. A vibrant nutty flavor lends itself to a wide variety of uses in recipes. Dried apricots or figs are wonderful accompaniments. Pairs well with a glass of Cabernet wine.
